Campaign Coffee: Crown of Fates (Part 7)

Welcome to our Campaign Coffee. This series of posts, which will be interspersed with regular Monday Coffee posts, aims to look back at roleplaying game campaigns that have shaped the Cosmoneiron into its current state. We will discuss the plots and characters, but also how they influenced the development of the Twin Worlds. I hope you enjoy these. Happy Monday!

In the last installment of Campaign Coffee, we followed the wyldervay as they entered the Land of the Dead, encountered the Lady of Souls again, accompanied by a very changed Faelar, and learned what had happened in the material world while they walked the Path of Carmad. Following these revelations, the wyldervay entered the Sixth Archway, and stepped straight into Tresis, the Library of Knowledge.

Tresis is an artificial Netherwhere, a pocket dimension which cannot normally be accessed. Indeed, its only access is the Path of Carmad, and only one who crosses through all the first six Archways can enter Tresis and avail themselves of the knowledge within. Since the Path forms only once every ten thousand years, the wyldervay were among the first to enter the Library since its creation at the very dawn of the Age.

Here was contained all knowledge which had been forgotten - or made to forget - in the material world. Ancient tomes that spoke of truths too uncomfortable for the Thelalorn and Iranorn to allow their existence, and yet too important to eradicate. Long-lost secrets and entire chunks of history the material world had entirely forgotten. The wyldervay were among the first to see this plethora of knowledge since it had been gathered and cast adrift.

Among the first, but not the first. That honor, they realized soon, to their horror, was to go to Koradrane Quinom, who had beaten them to the library, however barely. The wyldervay discovered him as he claimed the Horn of Awakening and crossed into the Seventh Archway, the path out of Tresis and into the place where the Trienorn slumbered. The wyldervay meant to give chase, but before that, they had to find something in Tresis.

Val'Sham and Anthony had ever been beset by a strange and lethal curse, manifested upon their bodies as a strange mark. Anyone they befriended or loved would always come to a grisly death. The curse had forced them to pull away from those they had loved, and rely only on each other for help, since they seemed to be immune to each other's curse. They did not know the origins or purpose of the curse. But here, in Tresis, there had to be a book that could reveal the answer. And once they left through the Seventh Archway, they could not return for another ten thousand years.

Thus, despite the urgency, they used magic to seek out this book, but couldn't immediately find it. Confronted with the reality that the search would take more time than they had available, they eventually had to give up, and chase Koradrane Quinom into the Seventh Archway before he completed whatever nefarious plan he had hatched...
